THE SOPHS SWEAT

Publicly rearing their heads for the first time, LA sextet The Sophs step out with their unforgettable debut 'Sweat'. Already signed to Rough Trade (which is sure to get eyes and ears twitching), the fresh-faced outfit's first single plays out a little like jam between The Stokes and Hellogoodbye. Their accomplished indie guitar hooks and captivating lead vocals are blatant in their catchiness, whilst retaining a modern, lo-fi cool. Keeping painful emotions in check until 'Sweat' reaches its climax around three quarters of the way through, vocalist and songwriter Ethan Ramon explains: “To me, the song feels like an attempt to overcompensate in the face of grief, one that fails miserably and ends with you being swallowed whole. I tried to capture the moment when the tension breaks and you realize you’re no longer in control of your emotions; your emotions are in control of you. That realization is humbling."
